STOP YOUR SELF HATE AND LOVE A DARK SKIN GIRL

TRIGGER WARING!!!
"She's too dark for that color"
"I hope my daughter isn't dark skin"
"WHERE THE FOREIGN HO*S AT?? "

I was born a dark skin girl. All my life I heard that I could not do a specific thing because of my skin color.
It isn't fair that my dark skin sisters are getting shamed just because our skin isn't what people find "attractive". Why must we get the short end of the stick? Every minute of everyday we must endure shallow compliments like "Aw you're very pretty for a dark skin girl" You're actually telling me that dark skin girls aren't attractive but hey I'm an exception. People actually believe that's a compliment.  Well sorry to break it to you but that really isn't.
The media doesn't help either, my features are only  glamorized when it is needed as a ghetto, loud, colorful side kick in movies.  The light skin woman is portrayed as prettier, nicer, more reserved, and more likable.  In shows like Martin, The Proud Family,  and even in music videos with your favorite rappers. Kodak Black even said so himself that dark skin women aren't attractive. YES REALLY, a whole black male has made comments about his own sisters.

Do you know how it feels to think you'll look more beautiful with lighter skin?
Or how many bleaching products we wanted to purchase because we were told that light skin is better? Skin bleaching has become a much more larger
epidemic since its start in the black community a century ago. The whites advertised bleaching products with the whole "Black is whack, white is right" mentality. The blacks back then had nothing else to lose so why not whiten my skin for privilege, possibly a job. What they did not know was this was going to be a start of self hate among blacks, especially dark skin black women.

Yes, there are a lot of questions.
When will we ever get a break?
You size us up & down if we to dare wear something revealing or bright in color. Why can't we? Who says it isn't made for us? Why do you hate us so much? A lot of questions that could make your head spin.  Yes dark skin girls go through this. They go through discrimination every single day. And no one ever sticks up for us,  no one ever stops to think that this isn't right and they need to apologize or how about just not commenting on skin color in general?
But it's cool you don't have to.
But we won't apologize for our skin. We won't apologize for wearing bold colors. We won't apologize for reminding you that lighter skin is a privilege. We won't apologize for anything. You don't have to like us and we don't have to be your "type" because yes everyone has a type, but having a type does not mean you disrespect us. We are not ugly. We are not hood rats. We are people who deserve respect and you will respect us.
