Melanin Flower
Started out as a
Tiny, hopeless seed
Dull, with no significant meaning
Little did they know
This seed would prosper
With
Water
Rich soil
Sun
Guidance and maintenance
Into
A new kind of unique kind of flower
Expect this flower
Would have
Skin so smooth
Sunkissed melanin skin from the motherlands
Hair sculpted oh so ever carefully by every
Strand of
Coil
Curl
And kink
Rhythm of the african drums played as her heartbeat
The gardener gave the blooming sprout
Water
Sunshine
Sunshine
A good base of soil
Maintenance
And guided the budding sprout to prosper
Days grew as the flower aged
It started to bloom into
Vibrant colors of
Red
Green
Black
And yellow
Soon the girl educated herself
Was supplied with the knowledge
Of the sound
Klink, klink, klink
Of the slave shackles
The burden
The pain
The suffrage
Her ancestors carried
For centuries
She embraced
Proudly the blackness
God embarked on her
The blackness society
Taught her to hate
She refused to adapt to any other standard of beauty society forced on her
Expect the blackness she was given
Letting the wind blow through her kinks and curls oh so ever
Effortsly
Carefree
She was truly a carefree black girl
Logan Kapers Shanks was the flower to bloom.
