Meet the Fabulous Photographer - Aviolah Joseph

At a very young age, Aviolah (@AVISKINSWEAT), says she found her love for not only photography but also graffiti (street art). The way her work stands out from the rest, is simply because she's not afraid to come out of her comfort zone to try something new. For the sake of perfecting her work, you can also see how passionate Aviolah is about her love for photography, throughout her shots. To gain more insight on her, read on.

Melanin Unity: When did you first become interested in photography?

Aviolah: Every since I was little honestly. I can't draw to save my life, so I used to paint with water colors when I was younger and then I later moved on to making collages. I loved seeing seeing graffiti everywhere, it made me angry when it was being covered up. Due to my lack of self-discipline, I never tried to sit down and learn how to draw, but I still needed an outlet to create my own art. So I turned to photography, my love.

Melanin Unity: What's your favorite type of art?
Aviolah: Damn, that's a really hard for sure. I'd have to say abstract paintings and any paintings that follow unordinary color palettes. They always seem to catch my attention.

Melanin Unity: What makes your work different and unique from fellow photographers?

Aviolah: My work strives to highlight the aspects of everyday life. Bringing out natural beauty while using natural light, beauty others tend to overlook. I see the beauty within.

Melanin Unity: Who's your inspiration, when it comes to photography?

Aviolah: Definitely Gregory Crewdson, his dedication to setting up movie scenes for photography and using artifical light to really bring the images together and to life, is very aesthetically pleasing and inspiring. It also forces you to feel this sense of isolation and seclusion. A huge influence to my work.
